Position Overview & Responsibilities:

Fleishman-Hillard has an immediate opportunity for a seasoned communications practitioner with knowledge of and a passion for implementing communication plans for livestock, agriculture, commodity and animal health clients to join the Kansas City office as part of the food and agribusiness practice.

The Vice President plays a pivotal role in handling many of the day-to-day logistics for the account team by driving and managing public relations strategies for a variety of clients in the agriculture industry. Responsibilities include managing projects and clients, as well as developing new business in the ag communications space. This position requires a high-level ability to think creatively and to plan strategically.

Responsibilities:
* Oversee the day-to-day details for programs, projects, promotions and events.
* Manage media relations with journalists serving the livestock, agriculture, animal health and food industries.
* Develop and pitch strategic marketing and public relations plans to clients and prospects.
* Work collaboratively with account and creative teams.
* Promote and sell story ideas and releases to journalists in major national, metropolitan daily, local and specialist media outlets serving the ag, animal health and food industries.
* Grasp new industry technologies and research quickly in order to best guide strategy development and client programming.
* Able to take briefs, rapidly assimilate information, interpret client requirements and present ideas concisely and persuasively to build trust and rapport.
* Strong writing skills.
* Build and manage client budgets and meet group forecasts.
* Work within fast-paced, collaborative team structure.
* Supervise direct reports and manage teams.
Qualifications:

* A minimum of 8-10 years of public relations experience preferably in an agency setting working with agricultural, agricultural chemicals and/or animal health clients.
* An agricultural background with experience throughout the food chain — the understanding of agricultural practices, as well as knowledge of consumer communications.
* The ideal candidate would also have relationships with influencers in associations and companies throughout the food chain.
* Agricultural chemicals, biotechnology, animal health, issues management or public affairs experience is strongly preferred.
* Versatile, persuasive writing skills and experience developing high-quality written materials, including communications plans, client correspondence and media communications.
* Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with a proven track record in messaging and positioning.
* Proven track record of outstanding client counseling, including strategic thinking, verbal and writing skills.
* Demonstrated experience in planning and executing results-oriented communications programs, and providing high-quality service to demanding clients.
* Excellent project management skills — ability to manage a wide variety of projects, prioritize work load, consistently meet deadlines, adapt to changing client needs and direct junior staff as needed.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
* Degree in agriculture, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field.
