Location MO04 - Missouri, Kansas City Status Date Opened 1/11/2012 Position Schedule Full Time Req Code 012-STS-MO0-12 Description This position will be in support of the National Information Technology Center (NITC), United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). . Receive deliveries (hardware/software) from courier . Verify delivery location and contact information is correct . Process the incoming and outgoing computer room equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) . Maintain unobstructed walkway that is free of debris and dust particles that could be harmful to media and/or equipment . Maintain staging area locations for receiving and shipping of tapes to and from NITC offsite storage vendor . Maintain comprehensive log of the life cycle of equipment and other hardware stored in the receiving area . Ensure all equipment is unboxed before moving from computer room floor . Ensure Change records, Remedy updates, and Equipment tags have been made before installation . Maintain locations for the storage of cases and carts used for the transfer of tapes . Assist with continuous print operations . Coordinate and oversee cleaning of the computer room floor, racks, and associated areas and report any discrepancies . Perform routine operator maintenance functions on computer components in computer room . Coordinate and control all computer room activities . Assist in installation of hardware as required . Monitor and ensure all persons in secured area have proper security badges . Verify all equipment is operational to meet established performance levels . Assist with contacting of vendors to correct equipment failures . Assist or provide escort and supervision of vendor maintenance in accordance with Data Center Security Directives . Assist with the scheduling of preventive maintenance . Keep track of maintenance dates and times as prescribed in vendor contracts and issue reminders . Assist in the planning and development of electrical power needs, perform work related to heating, ventilating, air conditioning, high/low voltage electrical, carpentry, painting, masonry, sheet metal and related trades
Education . High School Diploma (Associate's Degree Preferred) Experience . Experience in a data center being responsible for coordinating and performing operator maintenance on peripheral equipment components . Experience in the disposal process of media, preparing equipment, and other components for removal . Experience or knowledge using Automated Tape Libraries (ATL) . Experience and knowledge of rack and stack of servers, cable installs and removal, and the handling of incoming/outgoing equipment shipment . Knowledge and skills in the use of Remedy ticketing system for document management . Experience and skills in the use of Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, and Outlook) . Possess good communication skills, both orally and written . Knowledge or concept of power and environmental equipment and strategies
