Location MO04 - Missouri, Kansas City Status Date Opened 1/12/2012 Position Schedule Full Time Req Code 017-STS-MO0-12 Description This position will be in support of the National Information Technology Center (NITC), United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). Provide Tier III support to end users for PC, server or mainframe applications and hardware. Handle problems that tier I support is unable to resolve. Interact with network services, software systems engineering, and/or applications development to restore service and/or identify and correct core problems. Simulate or recreate user problems to resolve operating difficulties. Recommend systems modifications to reduce user problems. Maintain currency and high level of technical skill in field of expertise. . Perform Production Control duties using state of the art scheduling packages . Perform System Administration duties in a mainframe and midrange environment . Manage and perform the steps/actions required in Remedy ticketing system . Maintain current and high level of technical skill in field of expertise . Perform and/or oversee security of the data center and escorting of personnel to designated areas of the computer room . Complete all daily logs and journals associated with maintaining computer room security and control . Support Disaster Recovery (DR) exercises . Ensure customer satisfaction through the resolution of all issues and problems reported . Report, document, and escalate customer contacts regarding issues, problems, and information . Notify the Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR) and/or Branch Chief for the System Network Control Center Branch (SNCC) or Service Operations Support Branch (SOSB) of any unusual occurrence with timeframes specified . Obtain successful results through research of IT information, development of ideas/concepts, and application of problem solutions on large and small scale servers . Develop and present written/oral presentations for the recommendation of changes and solutions to programs or procedures . Perform Computer Operations functions such as system IPL's/Reboots, Backups, Configuration Modifications, troubleshoot failures, recycle applications, initiate and perform production scheduling functions . Generate reports to track and monitor the status of equipment utilizing the Web-Control PC . Research and resolve environmental and facilities power issues within prescribed timeframes
Education . Associates Degree (Bachelor's preferred) or comparable work experience Experience . Ability to operate web control system, fire suppression systems, Power Distribution Units (PDS), Generators, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Computer Room Air Conditioning Units and Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (CRAC/HVAC) and other equipment to maintain a stable environment
Skills/Knowledge Required: . Knowledge and skills working in a mainframe environment with independently or direct intermediate level personnel in the successful completion of task . MVS, z/OS, or z/VM on the mainframe environment. Modify configuration panels on the HMC and system consoles to perform system IPL's, adjust resources availability or respond to WTOR messages . Knowledge and skills in the use of several software/applications/tools in the mainframe environment (OPS/MVS, JCL, SAS, Abendaid, DB2, DFRMM, TCPIP, VTAM, CICS, Omegamon Oracle grid, and VM monitoring tools) . Proficient in the use of one or more of the following production control scheduling packages: ESP, CA-7, ControlM . Experienced in performing system backups: competent knowledge of large file system backup, experience/knowledge using Storage Area Network (SAN) and/or Virtual Tape Libraries (VTL) . Knowledge and skills to perform work in a client server environment with one or more of the following: LINUX, Windows, AIX, and UNIX . Knowledge and skills to perform rack, stack, and installs of servers, software packages, perform system patching and troubleshoot connection or system unavailability issues . Experienced using Remedy ticketing suite or similar ticketing system . Experienced using peripheral components to connect to servers, troubleshoot, diagnose customer connectivity issues or system failures . Experienced using Solar Winds Network Monitoring Tool or similar tool . Experience installing and terminating Cat 5/6 and Fiber Optic cabling using optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) or other cable testing tools . Experience and skills in the use of Microsoft OS: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, and Outlook . Experience with data communications hardware/software, including routers, switches, and firewalls
Special Requirements/Certifications . ITIL V3 Foundation Certification or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of employment start date
