Description: GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY: Provide technical and scientific expertise to the laboratories.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
* Work with management to set up and run assays in support of SBU¡¦s requirements.
* Selection of the test methodology that is appropriate for the clinical use of the test results
* Be available to answer scientific/technical questions for various CRL clients
* Identify proper test selections and complete the costing analysis to be included in new study proposals
* Consult with customers/sponsors on testing requirements and testing methods for specific studies
* Evaluate the development and implementation of new laboratory assays
* Assist in the development of new assays
* Serve as technical consultant with internal sales staff and external clients as needed to improve CRL¡¦s scientific competitive profile
* Provide technical assistance to lab technicians as needed to troubleshoot and resolve assay performance problems
* Assist in writing and reviewing SOPs.
* Assist the Laboratory Director and Laboratory QC function in ensuring testing methods are properly validated.
* Assist the Laboratory QC department to establish acceptable QC criteria; review QC records when required.
* Advise on corrective action taken in response to unacceptable QC performance or when other errors occur.
* Review data packets and reporting procedures
* Assist in defining acceptance criteria and interpretation of the analytical data.
* Continuously improve and update professional knowledge and skills to better advise and guide the laboratory in testing and the interpretation of results.
* Maintain and protect the confidentiality of all CRL and client information.
* Be able to comply with all applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations that would apply to this job.

Required Skills: EDUCATION: Ph.D. in one of the natural sciences with an adequate undergraduate and graduate education in biology, chemistry and pharmacology or toxicology. Certification as a laboratory director.
EXPERIENCE: 7 years in a laboratory environment.
SKILLS & ABILITIES: Ability to work independently; problem solving & analytical ability; good oral and written skills; detailed oriented; with sound judgment and decision-making skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lifting up to 25lbs.
EQUIPMENT: Basic laboratory equipment; computer
OTHER: May require some overnight travel and weekend work.
