Job Description:
Midwest Research Institute currently has a need for an experienced Principal Nuclear Physics Engineer.
Qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
* Knowledge and understanding of nuclear engineering and nuclear physics, especially related to knowledge of nuclear fuel cycles, nuclear plant processes, and both solid and gaseous nuclear waste handling technologies.
* Knowledge and understanding of the principles and techniques associated with experimental scientific research, analytical instrumentation, and laboratory operations.
* Knowledge and understanding of nuclear materials collection, detection, analysis and data evaluation techniques; to include analysis of effluent from and signatures of nuclear weapons and reactors.
* Knowledge and understanding of the nuclear community and multi-agency interests and requirements; and their interactions and responsibilities in nuclear energy related issues.
* Ability to keep abreast of advances in technology related to nuclear detection and physics through selection and review of appropriate scientific publications.
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, in order to produce technical reports, position papers, and briefings; summarize technical findings; resolve conflicts based on mature judgment and experience; and maintain good working relationships.
Major Responsibilities:
* Performs professional engineering and scientific work related to the detection and identification of nuclear materials, processes, and materials used for the generation, controlled release, and utilization of nuclear energy.
* Provides recommendations on nuclear detection and engineering issues, nuclear processes, and materials effluent analysis.
* Provides input to nuclear process technical assessments and data evaluation/interpretation.
* Uses imagination and professional judgment to identify, investigate, analyze, and help resolve complex and difficult technical issues.
* Assists in the identification of nuclear data evaluation research and development (R&D) requirements; and reviews R&D project results.
Basic Requirements:
* Ph.D. in specified study area plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or M.S. in specified study area plus a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience; or B.S. in specified study area plus a minimum of 18 years of relevant experience
* Specialized experience includes knowledge and understanding of nuclear engineering and nuclear physics, especially related to knowledge of nuclear fuel cycles, nuclear plant processes, and both solid and gaseous nuclear waste handling technologies.
