Job Description: IT Support Specialist/Computer Operations Support Specialist
Senior IT Support Specialist will provide datacenter IT Support on a variety of computer systems, peripheral components, environmental systems, power components, and alert notification systems. Candidate is required to provide 7x24x365/366 I, II, III tier support to government customer and end users for datacenter services, small and mid-range servers, mainframe, software, and hardware platforms. Performs work involving planning and implementing large and small server installations, maintenance, and upgrades. Perform or assist in the installations, maintenance, upgrades, and overall operational success. Perform or assist in the installation or decommission of equipment. Monitor, maintain, and respond to the power and environmental incidents within the data center. Utilize automated tools to manage the power environmental systems. Researches, modifies and develops business requirements for new or upgraded computer hardware. Follows government Center directives and policies in the Change Management process to complete required services. Perform or complete functions associated with organizational requirements, policies, procedures, and guidelines in support of government and its customers. Perform research, analysis and document recommendations for change and improvement to the government commitment to provide state of the art solutions in the Informational Technology arena. Perform Physical Security access and control of the datacenter.
Requirements:
Requirements and Skills:
Applicant must be a US Citizen;
Certification (s) relevant to the position;
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experiences;
Excellent communications skills both written and verbal;
Experience supporting datacenter facilities of leading large, medium, small and complex sites;
Tier I, II and III support;
MS Office Knowledge (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, and Outlook);
Working knowledge of server environment utilizing operating systems - LINUX, WINDOWS, AIX, and UNIX;
Required server hardware knowledge to perform rack, stack, software packages, patching, and troubleshooting;
Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting systems unavailability issues (connective issues, and systems failures)
Ticketing experience
Understanding of server monitoring tools (OpenView, Nagios, Solar Wind, etc.);
Experience installing and terminating a Cat 5/6, network cabling and Fiber Optic cabling within a datacenter environment (using optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) and other cable testing tools);
Knowledge of large file systems backup
Experience with data communications hardware/software, including routers, switches and firewalls;
Ability to install, maintain and monitor electronic equipment including: network cards, CSU/DSU hubs routers, switches, controllers, multiplexors and other related networking equipment.
