Technical Writer
SUMMARY:
Maintains software documentation necessary to support application(s) developed for automating medical office functions including but not limited to billing, scheduling, and financial functions. Designs, writes, edits, and updates documents, including: procedure manuals, lists of frequently asked questions, help files, business requirements, release notes, business arguments, and training manuals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and any other duties as assigned by the supervisor:
Authors and updates client procedure manuals. A procedure manual describes, step by step, how the client can utilize an application to perform business functions. This manual will be clear, concise, and logical.
Maintains a list of frequently asked questions. These questions are generated by the client. The list allows the client quick and efficient access to generic user issues.
Generates help files and assures that clients have access to the most recent application help information. Help files are generated from the latest versions of the procedure manual and list of frequently asked questions.
Understands how individual end-to-end business processes relate to the software development lifecycle and utilizes this knowledge to write business requirements. This entails describing in detail the business functions to be fulfilled by the software.
Writes release notes by describing, using short, understandable paragraphs, changes made to applications. These descriptions are included with a software release.
Researches the business impact of software projects to write a business argument. The business argument describes the importance of producing a project for clients.
Creates application training manuals, in cooperation with the Client Services Department. A training manual is used to educate the client on the necessary steps for setting up an application and making it ready to be used. This manual contains technical as well as business descriptions. This manual will have the logical flow of the application.
Reports any technical documentation issues in a timely manner.
Maintains and monitors task assignments in the task management tool.
Performs other activities and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Follows Company policies and procedures as set out by Company management. Completes job duties and assignments timely, accurately and with a professional attitude and appearance. Maintains a positive and cooperative relationship with clients and other Company personnel. Maintains a regular, predictable attendance and has the ability to keep a regular work schedule.
This position is a non-exempt position within the Company, requires working overtime as necessary, and may require.
Requirements:
Education and/or Experience --
Bachelor's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and training. Experience authoring technical documents in a software development environment.
Skills and Other Capabilities --
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, clients, supervisors and managers.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Proficiency in software testing techniques and strategies and in software development lifecycles and methodologies.
Possess the organizational skills to manage and prioritize their own work load in a multi-task position.
Possess interpersonal skills necessary to successfully interact with clients and Company staff.
